SUMMARY: Learn to Read Phonetically (22 book series)

Paperback Editions

The Learn to Read Phonetically series of stories includes 1-17 Individual Books, easier for younger students to hold, and 5 Combination Collections (1-6, 7-8, 9-12, 13-15, and 16-17), easier for teachers when managing a variety of reading groups.

The 17 Individual Books, and the same books in Combination, introduce the 318 DOLCH Sight words (phonetically and by sight) plus a cumulative list of other phonetic words (7299 in total) via phonics concepts, Kindergarten level through Junior High, starting with short vowels and single consonants, blends, and digraphs, then adding the "Silent e" Rule, Compound words, y, and the common vowel teams (ea, au, aw, ai, ay, ee, igh, oa, ow, ew, oo, r-controlled vowels, oi, oy, and ou) --- all of which are organized on Mary Schuler's proprietary VOWEL REFERENCE CARD --- then Multisyllable words, and finally concluding with advanced consonant sounds and the CVC, Silent e, and Consonant-y Spelling Rules. These collections are based upon Orton-Gillingham materials, a well-defined, structured, and evidenced-informed early literacy approach to teaching phonics.
